MRS broth (deMan, Rogosa, Sharpe)
Use and description: This broth is used to encourage and help the growth of lactobacilli from food products. The medium inhibits the growth of different cocci and moulds due to the sodium acetate and ammonium citrate content. Tween 80 supports the growth of bacteria that require fatty acids.

Final pH of the ready to use medium: 6.2 ± 0.2 at 25°C
Medium preparation: Add 52.75 grams of dehydrated culture medium to 1 liter of distilled water, allow to soak for 10 minutes, swirl to mix then distribute into containers and sterilise for 15 min at 121oC..
Quality specifications: Dehydrated medium: homogeneous, light cream, aligthly clumped powder. Ready to use medium: amber colored solution, very slightly opalescent.
Microbiological response:
Storage: Dehydrated medium should be stored between 10 to 25oC. Once opened, place the container in a dark, dry place. The dehydrated medium should not be used if there is any lump or if the color has changed from the original.
