TSA (Tryptone Soy Agar)
Use and description: Nutrient medium for a wide range of microorganisms. The formula conforms to the United States Pharmacopeia for sterility testing. A blood agar medium can be prepared with the addition of 5 to 10% sterile defibrinated sheep blood and can be used for the detemination of haemolytic reactions of pathogenic microorganisms in clinical specimens.

Final pH of the ready to use medium: 7.3 ± 0.2
Medium preparation: Add 39 grams of dehydrated culture medium to 1 liter of distilled water. Heat with repeated stirring and boil for one minute to dissolve completely. Distribute and autoclave for 15 min at 121oC.
Quality specification: Dehydrated medium: homogeneous, beige, fine powder. Ready to use medium: amber coloured, slightly opalescent agar.
Microbiological response:
Storage: Dehydrated medium should be stored between 10 to 25oC. Once opened, place the container in a dry, dark place. The dehydrated medium should not be used if there is any lump or the color has changed from the original. |
